Welcom Software, Harrogate-based business solution specialist, has scooped two trophies in The York Press Business Awards 2006 signifying a great end to what has been an exceptional year for the company.

Welcom Software retained the ‘Progress Through People’ title it won last year and took the award for ‘Large Business of the Year’, proving that it has maintained its reputation as a successful business in Yorkshire and is now recognised as one of the market leaders in the UK.

The change in Welcom Software’s people culture, which saw a conscious shift away from ‘commanding and controlling’ towards a more empowering environment where staff can confidently contribute towards business growth, has enabled the company to become more innovative and forward thinking. Investment in staff development and motivation has reaped rewards allowing the company to drive up profits. High-profile client wins from the retail and financial sectors such as Land of Leather, department store Oldrid & Co, and Airdrie Savings Bank have also contributed towards Welcom’s outstanding profits.

Nigel Welch, Chief Executive Officer at Welcom Software says: “ We were up against some outstanding companies this year and are delighted to have won the ‘Progress Through People’ and ‘Large Business of the year’. The awards are testimony to all the hard work the staff have put in over the last 12 months. The new motivational initiatives we have introduced are changing the culture at Welcom and have helped us to become a more forward thinking company.”

Welcom Software is also currently one of only two companies in the region to hold two Investors In People (IiP) accreditations, the Recruitment and Selection model and Leadership and Management. It has recently begun a further new IiP accreditation in conjunction with Sports England and The Department of Health called ‘Benefits of balance’. If Welcom Software is successful in this accreditation it will become the only company in the region to hold all three IiP accreditations.
