Welcom Software staff climb Everest to achieve healthy work-life balance
Business software specialist, Welcom Software has embarked on a new Investors in People (IiP) programme in conjunction with Sport England and the Department of Health, called the ‘Benefits of Balance’ programme.
The programme aims to help staff look after their own wellbeing and achieve a healthy work-life balance.
Staff are encouraged to partake in a number of workshops and challenges designed to make them think about their health. One such task is ‘The Everest Challenge’, where staff will climb Everest’s 8,846 metres by walking up the stairs to their office. The Welcom offices are based on the 10th floor of The Exchange in Harrogate, meaning staff will climb 60 metres in each trip up the office steps!
Welcom Software is committed to helping its staff achieve a healthy work-life balance and with most people spending long hours in the workplace, the programme aims to help make it a much healthier and happier place to be.
Welcom Software is currently one of only 2 companies in the region to hold two Investors In People (IiP) accreditations, the Recruitment and Selection model and Leadership and Management. On completion of the ‘Benefits of balance’ programme, Welcom will work towards a further IiP accreditation for the Work-Life Balance model and, if successful, they will become the only company in the region to hold all three accreditations.
Nigel Corp, Welcom’s chief operating officer says: “Our culture engenders strong communication and teamwork with open working relationships, making our people genuinely happy in their jobs and feeling that they are making a difference at work. With the help of the Benefits of Balance programme, we hope to provide a more energised environment in which to work, encouraging staff to ‘run’ themselves as well as our business.”
With Government figures predicting that by 2012 more than 12 million adults in the UK could be obese, steps need to be taken to encourage people to be more physically active. The ‘Benefits of Balance’ programme funded by Sport England and the Department of Health, delivered by Yorkshire and Humber Assessment Ltd will help organisations implement good practice in work-life balance, health and wellbeing.
